I’ve often heard that NFL teams that perform quite well offensively inevitably lose or win by a sneeze because of poor field position due to penalties. Either the same cannot be said for college football or a very strong offense can still overcome the bad field position due to penalties. The Florida Gators hosted the Hawaii Warriors earlier today–the swamps of home amassed thirteen penalties but still won the game. 56 to 10 final score.

Tim Tebow and Cameron Newton quarterbacked for Florida. Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch, and Inoke Funaki hit the field for Hawaii. Neither team scored in the first quarter. By halftime, the Gators would put twenty-eight points on the board (thanks to touchdowns by running Brandon James, safety Major Wright, and running back Chris Rainey). By the end of the game, Gators put twenty-eight more points up (courtesy of running back Jeffrey Demps, wide receiver Louis Murphy, quarterback Newton, and safety Ahmad Black).

The Warriors’ ten points came from a field goal and a TD (by wide receiver Greg Salas) in the fourth quarter.
