Was your love of David Bowie’s music, persona, and artistry an intellectual, cognitive experience? If so (partly or completely), perhaps George Michael’s music reached a more subterranean level within you?

We’ve talked about this a bit offline, but I think GM’s work definitely had hit me at a more visceral, unconscious – so yes, subterranean – level. So much so that I hadn’t bothered to analyze it. On an objective level, I also think he wrote much better songs in terms of sheer hook and melody. There’s really no comparison there.
