‘Tis the Season: Colts bedazzle the Texans

The Indianapolis Colts stared down the Houston Texans (on CBS). Outcome: Nice horsey.

The culminating act of Houston’s first possession was a touchdown by wide receiver Kevin Walter. Indianapolis ended their first possession with a field goal. Colts running back Joseph Addai made a TD at the top of the second quarter (after having left the field briefly in the bottom of the first quarter following a rough tackle). Indianapolis 10. Houston 7. Colts tight end Dallas Clark increased his team’s lead over Houston with a TD just past the midpoint of the second quarter. Colts defensive back Bob Sanders intercepted Houston’s ball soon thereafter. With the control of the ball again, Dallas Clark made another TD. Colts 24. Texans 7.

The third quarter started with a touchdown by Colts running back Clifton Dawson. Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne continued the scoring with a TD quickly past the middle of the third quarter. Indianapolis 38. Houston 7.

And so…something very weird happened after that play. Upon returning from commercial break, my local CBS station decided to switch to the Browns vs. Bengals game.

I checked the game center and within the two minute warning in the bottom of the fourth quarter, Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson made a TD. A two-point conversion attempt worked (thanks to running back Darius Walker). At the final heartbeats of the fourth quarter, Houston 15 and Indianapolis 38. And that would be the final score.

Observations & Miscellania:

1. One of the commentators noted that the NFL has seventeen officiating crews. Ed Hochuli’s crew, the one presiding over this game, has been to nine Super Bowl games.
