The Orphans of the World

When the world is about to end, if you were with your beloved, you could crawl into a hole in the ground and embrace the inevitable.  While I’ve liked this song by Wang Feng, I’ve never really, really liked it until today…when I started paying attention to the lyrics.

Don’t cry, my beloved, I think we will die together
Don’t cry, summer rose, all has already passed
You see the cars going back and forth, the distant neon lights flickering
All of this is like our dream

Come on, my beloved, tonight we dance together
Come on, lonely wild flower, everything will end
You hear outside the window the nightingale and the laughter from the street crowd
All of this is like our dream

Hey, don’t cry, my beloved
We have to be strong, we have to smile
because no matter what happens to us,
we will always be this beautiful world’s orphans

Sometimes, I feel disappointment, I feel like a blade of grass
Sometimes, I slip into emptiness, but I don’t know why
Time has dripped away and yet I’m still here
I’ve already fallen into a deep vortex

Darling, look into the distance
The moon rises from wilderness,
pleading with you to hold me tight, I feel cold, I feel pain
You see the cars going back and forth, it’s like they’re searching for something
They’re just like our fate

Hey, don’t cry, my beloved
We have to be strong, we have to smile
because no matter what happens to us,
we will always be this beautiful world’s orphans

Hey, don’t cry, my beloved
We have to be strong, we have to smile
because no matter what happens to us,
we will always be this beautiful world’s orphans.
